STARKVILLE — Dustin Nixon was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years in prison for second-degree murder, according to records.
A jury on Friday convicted Nixon, 36, of the murder of his brother-in-law Shawn Stricklin, 26. Judge James Kitchens handed down the maximum sentence.
Stricklin was fatally shot on April 28, 2018. His body was found in his vehicle at the end of Nixon’s driveway. Nixon was charged two days later.
Nixon’s case originally went to court in 2022, but it ended in a mistrial due to a toxicology report coming back halfway through the trial for which neither side had a copy.
According to Assistant District Attorney Trina Davidson-Brooks, the entire 40-year sentence is mandatory, and Nixon will not be eligible for early release or parole.
