CALEDONIA — Mayor George Gerhart was back at the head of the table in Caledonia Town Hall Tuesday night.
It was his first meeting with the new Board of Aldermen since the mayoral and aldermen”s election, which took place in the same building June 2.
Gerhart served as mayor of the town for eight years before his immediate predecessor, Bill Lawrence. He did not have to be briefed on or reminded of issues several times during the meeting, as a totally new mayor might have, but at a few moments Gerhart showed the board and the onlookers he had some catching up to do.
He did not know there was no longer such a thing as the Ola J. Pickett Park Authority.
“We”re not an authority anymore,” Alderman Mike Savage told him.
“Did that change in the last four years?” the mayor asked.
“Yeah,” someone said. Several people then explained the organization had changed from a commission to an advisory board last year.
In other business, the mayor and board:
n Decided Alderman Bill Darnell would serve as vice mayor. He served in the same position toward the end of the last term, under Lawrence.
