A Monroe County woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday to attacking a Hamilton High School basketball coach last December.
Heather Thompson, 37, was sentenced to one year of house arrest with four years of post-release supervision, a court official confirmed to The Dispatch. Thompson faced a felony charge of simple assault on a school official.
Thompson attacked Hamilton High School girls’ basketball coach Sue Verner during a Dec. 10 game. Thompson is the parent of a player on the team.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told The Dispatch at the time that Thompson “punched the coach out” over a disagreement over whether the child should ride home on a school bus or with her parents.
After the incident, Verner was taken to Merit Health Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory and released after treatment.
