CLAY COUNTY — A missing man was found dead Tuesday in a lake in Clay County.
Timothy Gillispie, 50, of Macon, was found Tuesday afternoon by authorities combing a lake along Waverly Road.
Gillispie had been missing since at least early Saturday following a party, Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said Wednesday. Deputies swept the property and a nearby lake before tracking down more witnesses Tuesday morning that pointed them toward Waverly Waters.
Gillispie was declared dead on the scene at roughly 2 p.m. by Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter.
His remains have been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy. Scott said an investigation is ongoing, but the case is not necessarily considered suspicious until a cause of death is determined.
The search effort was also assisted by West Point Fire and Rescue and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
“If anybody out there knows anything, and we know there were a lot of people at the party that night, it would be helpful if they’d come forward and give us that information,” Scott said.
