Bargain shoppers, there’s still a bit of a wait for the Columbus Ollie’s store.
Since the Ollie’s sign is officially up at the former Bargain Hunt location at 2312 Hwy. 45, folks have been asking me regularly when the doors will finally swing open. There is still some work to be done for the nation’s largest retailer of closeout and excess inventory, but Ollie’s is slated to open in Columbus on Sept. 9.
According to Ollie’s Marketing Coordinator Kob Althoff, the first 500 customers to sign up for the Ollie’s Army rewards program on opening day will receive free Ollie’s branded swag. Althoff added that while the date is subject to change, we at least have a target on the calendar.
For the uninitiated, Ollie’s sells a variety of name-brand merchandise spanning housewares, flooring, food, cookware, electronics and cleaning supplies. This location will be approximately 30,000 square feet and is Mississippi’s 11th location for the chain, with more than 640 stores nationwide.
Moving to our downtown area, we have some exciting news.
In historic Catfish Alley, Jones Residences has officially signed its first tenants, bringing new life to the landmark area. The Jones Restaurant Facebook page announced an update for the upstairs apartments they renovated over the restaurant, which they are continuing to work on.
“This is a special milestone for our family and for downtown Columbus as we join in helping bring new life to historic Catfish Alley,” the post reads.
I reached out for more information but did not hear back by press time on Wednesday.
Also in town, the Festival of the Fae is taking over this Saturday and Sunday. Located at 43 Luxilin Drive, the Renaissance fair is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 and children 12 and under are free. You can grab tickets at the door or online, but leave the pets and outside snacks at home. From the looks of it, there’s going to be a lot of exciting vendors and local artisans to check out, so come on out and celebrate Mississippi’s first Renaissance fair.
Over in Starkville, a new bank is hosting its grand opening next week. Bank of Commerce, located at 818 Hwy. 12 W., will host its ribbon-cutting May 21.
Folks can check out the new branch and meet the team starting at 11 a.m. with refreshments, prize giveaways and more. The Starkville branch adds to the bank’s growing footprint in the Golden Triangle, joining two locations in Columbus and one in West Point.
“We are proud to celebrate this new location and our continued investment in Starkville and the Golden Triangle,” Bank of Commerce President and CEO Bryan Thornhill said. “This branch represents our commitment to providing convenient access and relationship-driven banking for the people and businesses we serve.”
See y’all next week.
