Advance Auto Parts announces the company is closing more than 700 locations by next year.
With two locations in Columbus and one in Starkville, only one is slated to close as of now. The East Columbus location, 245 Alabama St., is already hosting store closing sales. The company announced 523 Advance corporate stores and four distribution centers are closing, and the company is exiting 204 independent locations. The announcement came after the company’s quarterly findings in November.
As of Oct. 5, Advance Auto Parts operated 4,781 stores, with 58 locations in Mississippi. An Advance Auto Parts representative could not confirm when the Columbus store would close, but the company’s press release confirmed that all closing locations will shutter by mid-2025.
“We are charting a clear path forward and introducing a new three-year financial plan, with a focus on executing core retail fundamentals to improve the productivity of all our assets and to create shareholder value,” CEO and president Shane O’Kelly said in a press release.
Moving out toward Highway 45, a restaurant is reopening at its new location.
Kennedra Ellis, owner of Kay’s Leftovers, is hosting a grand opening at 11 a.m. Saturday at 1920 Hwy. 45, Suite 2, the shopping center next to Sonic.
“We want to thank each and everyone of you for being so patient with us during our transition,” Kay’s social media post read. “… We would love to see each of you at our ribbon cutting.”
Kay’s offers various loaded baked potatoes, salads, tenders, wings and more.
According to the company’s social media, Kay’s will be open 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and occasionally open on Sundays.
There’s another tea spot open in Columbus.
Sip and Spill Teas, 125 Tradewinds Drive N., held a soft opening earlier this month.
Sip and Spill is open 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. The new joint offers loaded teas, specialty beauty and protein shakes, coffees and more.
Moving over to Starkville, a downtown boutique has closed.
Gifts by KPEP, 101 S. Washington St., officially closed in November.
The company announced the closure on Instagram last month.
“It’s been a fun ride that lasted longer than we were expecting, however, we are sad to announce that our Starkville pop-up will be closing,” the post read. “While this news is sad to hear, our Ridgeland location is not going anywhere.”
