The Columbus Baptist Urgent Care is officially closed.
Amy Thomas, chief marketing and communication officer for Urgent Team, cited “declining community demand for walk-in urgent care services” as the reason for the closure of the Columbus location at 1503 Hwy. 45.
She confirmed the final day of services was Wednesday, but Baptist Urgent Care will continue operating locations in Batesville, Horn Lake, Olive Branch, Tupelo and Starkville.
In 2023, Baptist Memorial Health Care entered a joint venture with Urgent Team Family, rebranding the Columbus clinic. The facility has served the Columbus area for the past 13 years.
“Baptist Memorial Health Care, through its Baptist Medical Group physician offices, will continue to provide primary care at several locations in Columbus and Starkville and has plans to expand its footprint in the area,” the press release stated.

There is some good news in Columbus, the long-awaited Italian restaurant is officially open.
Amata Italian Restaurant, 509 Main St., opened Monday. Cousins Ronnie Gashi and Florian Imeri will run the restaurant, along with their locations in Oxford, Brandon and Tupelo.
“In true Italian tradition, our kitchen comes alive with laughter, passion and the aroma of fresh herbs and simmering sauce,” a social media post read. “Our chefs pour their hearts into every handcrafted pasta, authentic bite, every classic dish passed down from generations.”
The menu features classic dishes including lasagna, chicken cacciatore, fettuccine bolognese and chicken parmigiana.
According to previous Dispatch reporting, Amata will have a full bar with an extensive wine list and accommodations for about 85 patrons.
I am certain folks will be lining up for some Italian food in the Friendly City, but be sure to come check it out 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
After about five years in operation, high-end Starkville restaurant 44 Prime, 211 S. Jackson St., is closing by the end of the month.
But owners and partners Roy Oswalt and Jeff Thornsberry are already preparing for their second venture on Poor House Road.
The duo hopes to open The Ranch, 1044 Poor House Road, by mid-July.
Located near the Mississippi Horse Park, the 6,000 square-foot restaurant will have three separate dining areas, which Thornsberry said will allow the restaurant to host private events while remaining open for guests. Thornsberry said they wanted to “sink their teeth” into a venture that was 100% theirs, meaning they started from scratch, customizing everything as they go.
“It’s fantastic, we have a blank slate for our restaurant,” he said. “… We want this to be the most Starkville place there is. We want to be something that folks are proud to be a part of.”
Thornsberry added that some menu items, including cocktails, will transition from 44 Prime to The Ranch. Even transitioning much of their staff, however, it’s going to be a different vibe.
“Rather than coming once every six months for a special occasion, we want you coming (to The Ranch) six times a month,” he said. “It’s going to be the same level of hospitality and quality. … Everyone is welcome.”
The Ranch will serve contemporary American food with trout, peri peri chicken, sandwiches, vegetables, salads, southern charcuterie boards and more.
“It’s going to be familiar dishes, but one that we can still wow them with,” he said.
As of now, they plan to be open for lunch starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday, with dinner services starting at 5 p.m. It will be open for brunch 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sundays.
Moving over to Highway 12, we officially have one fewer Starbucks in town.
According to Starbucks officials, the coffee shop in Kroger at 826 Hwy. 12. closed permanently in mid-April.
Starbucks still operates three locations in Starkville, with one on MSU’s campus in Perry Food Hall, near the Aldi and Marshall’s shopping complex and the third at 600 Hwy. 12.
