Happy holidays, readers!
I hope you eat well, nap good and all your football teams win (provided they aren’t playing the New Orleans Saints or Mississippi State Bulldogs) this Thanksgiving weekend. With the holidays among us, it’s also time to find all those gifts you and I put off until Black Friday.
The Golden Triangle is stocked full of deals this year, from big box retailers to local businesses. Make sure you check out The Dispatch’s Shopping Guide special section to help you find stocking stuffers and gifts for any loved one.
The Shopping Guide has anything from stocking stuffers to a dining set from Starkville’s Rock Bottom Furniture or living room furniture from Lighting Unlimited in Columbus. This year’s deals have the perfect gift ideas for everyone. Lowndes County Farm supply has the special gift for that outdoors type including backpack coolers, kids wrangler and Carhartt combos, and Carhartt hats. Ali Kats Boutique and Waverly’s Boutique both have various stocking stuffers, while the Busy Bee Nursery in Macon has pottery houses and tree decorations for this holiday season.
Make sure that you check out the Shopping Guide for more deals.
Moving to the big box side, Walmart’s online Black Friday deals started on Monday with specials on Playstation 5, Apple watch and airpods pro 2. Walmart will be closed Thanksgiving Day and reopen at 6 a.m. Friday with special in-store deals.
Although many stores are closed on Thanksgiving, Dollar General will remain open. If you’re shopping around for last minute ingredients at DG, please remember the folks working hard and send a little thanks and kindness their way. Dollar Generals around the Golden Triangle will have DG Deal Days on Thanksgiving Day to Saturday. They’ve got 50% off trees, lights, toppers or skirts, $5 toastmaster appliances, and buy one toy and get 75% off when you buy two.
In Columbus, Tech Video has up to $3,500 off flat screen televisions, speaker sets and sound bars. Ashley Furniture has Black Friday Doorbusters with 24 months interest free and an extra 10% off clearance. Belk also started their Black Friday deals and doorbuster Nov. 22 and will run through Saturday with up to 65% off dress wear for women and men plus many other sales.
Tons of local places in our area are advertising sales such as Starkville’s Habitat for Humanity ReStore where everything is 75% off on Black Friday or Fired Up Studio in Columbus offering 25% off retail Friday through Sunday.
Several shops are even opening Thanksgiving night, including Cobalt’s Boutique in Columbus at 9 p.m. to midnight with $20, $30 and $40 doorbuster deals and Garret + Co in Columbus with 50% off Mountain Khaki, bundle deals and 20% off all clothing at 9 p.m.
Tis the season to be thankful, eat plenty and thank many. With all the shopping happening this week, Columbus Main Street Director Barbara Bigelow always reminds folks that supporting locals is an important investment in your community. Following Black Friday, Small Business Saturday celebrates local and independent businesses, a shopping holiday that takes place the last Saturday of November each year since 2010.
“Many of our downtown merchants will be running specials (and) promotions during Black Friday and Small Business Saturday,” Bigelow said. “…I always encourage the community to support small businesses, which keeps money circulating in our local economy. For every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stays in our community. Our local entrepreneurs work hard to service this community and our support is important to their success.”
Happy Holidays, y’all!
