A West Point man who led Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies on a two-mile chase Wednesday is behind bars for multiple thefts.
Gerry Scott Dailey, 56, is charged with grand larceny, attempted grand larceny and felony possession of methamphetamine, as well as disobeying a traffic control device, driving without a license and failing to yield to a blue light, which are misdemeanors.
Deputies attempted to stop Dailey for a traffic violation on Highway 82 at Lehmberg Road near the Columbus city limits, Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch. A brief eastbound chase ensued.
During the pursuit, deputies saw the suspect throwing items from his vehicle, which were later identified as methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
On Tuesday, deputies received a report of stolen property from a business, and an investigation identified a white SUV, similar to what Dailey was driving when he was stopped, as being involved, Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said. The vehicle was also linked to an attempted theft of a trailer in the New Hope area and a theft of a boat and trailer on Highway 373.
Deputies obtained a search warrant for the SUV, which recovered stolen property, including items stolen from the business, the press release said.
Dailey is being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center with bond set at $30,705.
