A Starkville man has been sentenced to seven years in prison, with four suspended, after pleading guilty Thursday to burglarizing the Salvation Army.
Jonas Andrews, 32, was arrested for commercial burglary in October 2016. According to his indictment, he broke into the Salvation Army office at 407 Industrial Park Road on Oct. 12, 2016 by breaking in the glass on the front door.
A victim impact statement from the Salvation Army, included in Andrews’ file, notes that the incident was, at the time, the second time in three years someone broke into the facility.
“… It creates some anxiety as to why this keeps happening,” the statement said. “We have had to adjust certain schedules and systems because of these break-ins and robberies.”
Andrews’ sentence also includes a $500 fine and four years of post-release supervision. He’s been sentenced as a habitual offender, which means he is not eligible for parole and his sentence cannot be shortened.
He’s been previously convicted on a 2003 charge of felony taking of a motor vehicle and a 2007 charge of burglary of a business. He was sentenced to five years in prison for each charge.
