A farming accident has left a Steens man dead, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
Willie Pounds, 66, was bailing hay in a field located near the 6900 block of Steens Road, east of Hairston Road, when he fell from his tractor and was run over by the hay bailer, Merchant said. Pounds was able to call 911 for help, and he was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
He died shortly after arriving at the hospital, Merchant said. Heat is not believed to be a factor.
This is the second tractor-related death in the past month, Merchant said. On Aug. 5 Tim Andrews, 64, was moving dirt at his home off Bluff Drive when his tractor rolled over on him.
