CLAY COUNTY – An Aberdeen man died Saturday during an all-terrain vehicle accident at Mudslingers Offroad Trails near the Clay/Chickasaw County border.
Tyrone Johnson Jr., 38, was driving his ATV during the trail site’s Mississippi Country Rap Throwdown concert at about 9:01 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, Sheriff Eddie Scott said.
The ATV turned over and crushed Johnson, Scott said.
Deputies found Johnson not wearing a helmet or other protective gear. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Based on witness accounts and a preliminary investigation of the crash site, Scott said, it is believed to be an accident.
Scott said CCSO investigators and the Clay County Coroner, Alvin Carter, were still surveying the scene as of Monday to rule out any other possibilities.
“From all accounts, from the witness statements and evidence that we’ve seen, it appears to be just a horrible accident,” Scott said.
