Police are seeking a suspect in a drive-by shooting Tuesday afternoon in East Columbus.
Officers responded at about 1:30 p.m. to a shots-fired call at the strip mall near McDonald’s and Marvin’s Building Materials on Alabama Street.
Chief Fred Shelton said a Black male drove up and began shooting from his vehicle at three other Black males who were standing in the parking lot in front of a barber shop in the strip mall. The shooter then drove away.
A bullet grazed one of the targeted men, but Shelton said he refused treatment. Bullets struck five vehicles, all parked and unoccupied, as well as a vape shop window, Shelton said. Police believe the shooter used a handgun based on shell casings recovered at the scene.
The three victims are from Macon, Shelton said, and he believes the shooter is, as well. He also believes the victims know the shooter.

“We’ve got an idea of who it is, but we’re trying to develop that,” Shelton said of the shooter. “We’re hoping to put that together today.”
Officers arrested one of the victims on an unrelated charge, Shelton said. Police are also looking through surveillance video footage for more information on the incident, including helping identify the suspect and determining whether there was an exchange of gunfire at the scene.
Anyone with information about the incident can call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151 or leave an anonymous tip via the P3 Tips mobile app.
