A man was wounded by shrapnel in a shooting in New Hope Sunday night, according to Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins.
Hawkins said Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle notified the LCSO of a gunshot victim in the emergency room about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
The victim was in a vehicle at the intersection of Casey Lane and New Hope Road, Hawkins said, when an unknown assailant pulled up and opened fire. The victim was not hit by bullets, but rather by broken glass. He was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
The victim was treated and released, Hawkins said.
The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any information about this case, please contact the LCSO at (662) 328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151, or use the P3 smartphone app.
