STARKVILLE – A man is in custody following an alleged Sunday morning break-in and assault on Peoples Street.
Blair Bell, 35, turned himself in to police Monday and is charged with domestic violence aggravated assault and residential burglary.
Starkville Police Department responded to a report of an assault at about 11 a.m. Sunday after Bell allegedly broke into a home on Peoples Street early that morning, struck a woman in the home with a bat and attempted to strangle her, according to an SPD press release.
SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said both parties knew each other. Lovelady could not confirm if the victim was the homeowner or if anyone else was in the home during the alleged break-in.
The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oktibbeha County for treatment and was later released.
Bell is being held at Oktibbeha County Jail. As of Monday afternoon, his bond had not been set.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to the incident is asked to contact SPD at (662) 323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
