CLAY COUNTY – A Macon man was indicted Monday for his alleged role in the March 2024 shooting at Oasis Lounge in Clay County that killed one woman and left 12 other victims injured.
A Clay County grand jury returned an indictment charging Tyler Books, 24, with first-degree murder and seven counts of aggravated assault, according to a press release from the 16th Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
“This indictment represents months of dedicated teamwork – from investigators who refused to give up, to citizens who had the courage to come forward,” District Attorney Scott Colom said in the press release. “Justice only works when the community and law enforcement work together.”
Eron Taleese Chandler, 20, of Columbus, was killed in the shooting March 3, 2024 after gunfire broke out in the nightclub just north of West Point on Highway 45 Alt. shortly after midnight. Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and found Chandler dead.
Two other victims suffered serious injuries, while others had grazing wounds.
Following Brooks’ arrest in July 2024, Colom said the lack of security cameras at the club and the reluctance of eye-witnesses to speak with law enforcement initially hindered the investigation.
But with the help of the public and cell phone videos that were sent in, investigators could put together a picture of what happened that night, leading to Brooks’ arrest.
The case will proceed in Clay County Circuit Court for trial.
