A Lowndes County man died Saturday morning in a fire at his home on James Hairston Road east of Crawford.
Lloyd Hairston, 72, lived at the home alone and recently suffered from health issues that limited his mobility, Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said. The fire was started by a space heater, Merchant told The Dispatch.
Though Merchant wrote in a text to area media that the fire is still being investigated, Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch it had been ruled accidental.
The fire started at abut 8:45 a.m., Hawkins said.
