Starkville Police Chief David Lindley was recently elected Southern Region Chair for the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s State Association Chiefs of Police Division.
He was elected at the IACP San Diego, Calif. conference and will represent Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia for two years.
In his new role, he will present information to IACP President Craig Steckler and the SACOP executive board.
SACOP serves as a coordinating body between the separate state Associations of Chiefs of Police to the IACP and assists with crime suppression, police equipment, highway safety management, communications systems and training.
Lindley said he will help develop information and enquiry requests based on research and work with the organizations to present reports on law enforcement issues and efforts.
“For example, we’ll discuss legislative issues and explore new trends that help efficiently and effectively enforce the law and find solutions to problems,” he said.
Two trends law enforcement face are the use of drones and vehicle-mounted license plate readers.
“We have to develop guidelines that will be effective yet not violate the rights of private citizens,” Lindley said.
