Kior officials are seeking 70 people to fill full-time slots at the Columbus biofuels plant, and they’re hoping to find at least some of those people Saturday during a job fair at East Mississippi Community College.
The event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at EMCC’s Golden Triangle campus in Mayhew, is free and open to the public.
At least half the positions will be for production jobs, and the other half will be for engineering, laboratory, quality control, warehouse and administrative jobs.
Job seekers are encouraged to bring resumes or apply on the state employment office’s website at www.mdes.ms.gov. Experience working in an industrial setting is preferred. Job applications can also be filled out on-site.
The event is being held in partnership with the Mississippi Workforce Investment Network and the Mississippi Develop-ment Authority.
Construction on the plant began earlier this year and is expected to be complete in the second half of 2012. Kior, a next-generation renewable fuels company, expects to produce 11 million gallons of fuel blend stocks per day.
Plant manager Greg Neve said the event will be good for both the company and the community.
“We want to recruit locally and be a good citizen in Mississippi, and we thought a job fair is a good way to reach out to the local people and hopefully find a good group of people to work for us,” Neve said.
Kior plans to invest more than $500 million across the state, adding additional plants in Newton, southwest Mississippi and two additional locations, and creating more than 500 jobs statewide.
