CRAWFORD – A suspect was arrested in connection with a Monday morning shooting in Crawford that left a man critically injured.
Omarion Shelton, 20, turned himself in to Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon, according to a press release. He was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a stolen firearm.
Deputies responded to Flowers Street at about 10:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. At the scene, a 21-year-old man was found with two gunshot wounds – one to the arm and another to the back of the head.
Witnesses said Shelton and the victim were struggling over a firearm before Shelton allegedly dragged the victim down the road in a black Kia and fired multiple shots.
The victim was airlifted from the scene to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where he remains in critical condition.
Shelton is being held at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting his initial appearance in court.
