CLAY COUNTY — A horse is dead following a Monday night hit-and-run on a bridge on Old Waverly Road, and police are looking for the driver that hit it.
Sheriff Eddie Scott said the horse and its rider were crossing the bridge at about 8:40 p.m. when a small red truck hit them. The driver sped off.
While the rider was uninjured, the horse’s injuries were extensive enough that it had to be euthanized, Scott said.
Though the driver fled the scene, Scott said hitting the horse caused damage to the front of the red truck, which should make it more identifiable.
The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information about the truck and its driver should call the sheriff’s office or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
