A homeless Steens man is behind bars after allegedly robbing a woman at knifepoint in her home on Porter Lane.
Little John Shelby, 42, has been charged with armed robbery and burglary of an occupied dwelling.
Shelby allegedly forced his way into a home Saturday and held a woman at knifepoint while demanding money, Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch.
He left with about $120 in cash, but left behind a Bowie-style knife and some of his personal belongings, Hawkins said.
Those clues, along with the fact the victim knew him, led to his swift identification as a suspect, Hawkins said.
Shelby was spotting walking on Waterworks Road near the Columbus Light and Water facility about 7 a.m. Wednesday, Hawkins said.
Deputies arrested him without incident.
Shelby was in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center as of press time. Bond had not been set.
