COLUMBUS – A police chase that started downtown Saturday ended after the suspect crashed into a fence at Trinity Nursing Home on Airline Road.
Xavier Cuff, 29, is charged with driving under the influence (third offense), malicious mischief and fleeing, all felonies; as well as misdemeanor reckless driving, according to a press release from Columbus Police Department.
Officers attempted to stop Cuff, who was driving a Ford F-150 pickup, at Fifth Street South and College Street, the press release said. The suspect failed to stop, instead leading officers on a high-speed chase.
After Cuff crashed into the nursing home fence, he tried to elude officers on foot but was quickly caught and arrested.
Cuff is being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting his initial court appearance.
