Nothing says “come on in” like a now open sign.
With that in mind, the Green Magnolia Dispensary at 7432 Hwy. 45 N. near the Columbus Air Force Base has opened, manager Tabitha Estes said.
Estes told me the medical cannabis dispensary opened on Feb. 4 and plans to hold a grand opening ceremony for the business in March.
Since the doors opened, Estes said business has been steady, with customers asking questions about how the dispensary works and how they can sign up for a dispensary card.
“We’ve been having a good bit of people who don’t have their medical patient cards that are interested in getting them,” she said. “So, we’ve been able to help people understand that process a little bit when they come in.”
Those interested in obtaining a medical card can apply for one through the Mississippi Department of Health Website and scheduling an appointment with a medically licensed doctor. “With the state only having a little over 2,000 active patient cards, sales have not been just booming and crazy,” Estes said.
Despite the setback, Estes said reception of the new business has been very positive and has received licensed patients to purchase its products.
“People coming in have been super positive and appreciative and thankful,” Estes said. “Most of the demographic is people ready to be off the prescription medication and try for more natural medication.”
Moving south on Highway 45, the Dairy Queen at 1902 Highway 45 N. creeps ever closer to opening.
Owner Vikaskumar Patel said the opening has been pushed to late March due to a delay in obtaining equipment from Dairy Queen corporate, such as the ice cream machines and the tiles he needs to wrap up construction.
“We ordered the ice cream machines, and they are one month late,” he said. “We also ordered the tiles, and those are 15 days late.”
Despite the delay, Patel said he is still excited to open the new restaurant and will offer some opening discounts when all is said and done.
In downtown Columbus, a men’s fashion boutique store, Allen Dales, has moved from its original location on Highway 45 to 224 Fifth St. S. in The Stone, a shopping center and apartment complex.
Owner Shelby Pritchett said she decided to move from her original location at 2401 Hwy. 45 N. because, quite simply, her business outgrew the space.
“We were just looking for a breath of fresh air,” Pritchett said. “We were getting a lot more business. So what better way to reintroduce us to Columbus than with a new, bigger space?”
The store closed in the location in late January and reopened at the new one on Feb. 11.
Pritchett said the new space allows her to spread out and add more men’s clothing options like jeans and more long-sleeve apparel for men and boys.
“I wanted more space for people to be able to actually walk around and shop and not feel overcrowded,” she said.
Moving to Starkville, Revive Wellness, located at 100 Russell St., fully opened on Friday, owner Clifton Scott said.
Scott said the business has already seen a few customers come in for their body sculpting service, Emsculpt, and has scheduled appointments for hormone therapy treatment.
“The reception to all of the equipment we’re using has been great,” Scott said. “We brought two more people yesterday for the Emsculpt. On Monday, we had five people scheduled to get their labs drawn for the hormone replacements. It’s really picking up pretty fast.”
Finally, my friends, in West Point Tony’s Barbeque is opening in a restaurant space at John’s Grocery at 6597 Hwy. 45 Alt. N. by the end of this week, owner Tony Harris said.
Having initially opened in 2009 at 904 Hwy. 45 S. and in other rented spaces since 2013, Harris felt it was time to move into a brick-and-mortar location again after being approached by the owners of John’s Grocery.
“Long story short, they’ve been tugging at me that I should come down there and give it a shot,” he said. “Honestly, I would love to get back into my passion and start barbecuing there. Plus, I love the high-traffic location.”
Once open, hours will be Wednesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Well, folks, I better head on in before the rain starts. Make sure to check back in next week for more goings on in business.
