Mississippi State baseball recorded its first sweep of in-state rivals No. 18 Ole Miss since 2019 on Sunday with a 7-1 Game Three victory in Oxford.
The No. 6-ranked Bulldogs now boast a 24-4 record, 7-2 in SEC play, and carry a seven-game winning streak into their midweek matchup with Grambling State at home.
Starting pitcher Duke Stone kept his regular Sunday spot with a reshuffled pack after Ryan McPherson’s mild forearm strain ruled him out of action for the weekend. Like teammate Charlie Foster, Stone made his deepest run on the mound this season, pitching 5.2 innings and coming just one out short of 6.0 IP.
Stone allowed just one run and set the tone for the rest of the bullpen. He and reliever Ben Davis would both get out of bases loaded jams as the Rebels struggled to get going on offense.
The opposite was true of the Bulldog batting order, with home runs from Ace Reese, Jacob Parker, Andrew Raymond and Kevin Milewski getting the job done. An RBI hit from Reed Stallman was the only non-home run of the day for MSU.
MSU will play Grambling at Dudy Noble Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The next scheduled SEC series will be against Georgia in Starkville, a Thursday-Friday-Saturday series to accommodate Easter weekend.
