The Columbus Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred Monday at the Canterbury Apartments. No one was injured.
According to CFD Capt. Junior Lancaster, the two-story townhouse style apartment, which is located at 13th Street and Fourth Avenue North, was occupied by Simone Davis.
“Davis was not in the apartment at the time of the fire. We were dispatched to the scene at 12:09 p.m., and we had everything under control within five to 10 minutes,” he said.
Four pumper trucks were dispatched to the scene of the fire. While there is smoke damage throughout the apartment, the heaviest damaged is centered in the kitchen area.
“It is still being investigated, so the cause of the fire has not been determined,” Lancaster said.
Davis, an assistant manager with Wonder Bread, was looking through the apartment at the damage in the kitchen and living area. She was preparing to move to another apartment complex, but still has some clothes and other furnishings at Canterbury.
“I have been staying here for the moment until I finish moving in. The beds are messed up, and some clothes I left here are messed up by the smoke, but it is not as bad as it could”ve been,” she said.
