An escaped Oktibbeha County inmate is now in custody after three weeks on the lam.
William Strohm, 47, was apprehended in Memphis Friday. He walked out of Oktibbeha County Jail, where he served as a trustee, on Dec. 3.
Strohm, a Memphis native, had been serving a one-year sentence for revoked probation related to a 2001 burglary conviction.
A Facebook post by the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office said Strohm was captured by U.S. marshals.
Capt. Brett Watson told The Dispatch Tuesday that Strohm will eventually be extradited to Oktibbeha County, but the timeline is dependent on the result of a Memphis court appearance scheduled for Strohm on Wednesday.
“Presumably, we would find out something” following Strohm’s court appearance, said Watson.
Watson declined to detail how Strohm made his escape earlier this month but said the issue had been corrected.
Kevin Edwards is news editor and reports on Starkville and Oktibbeha County government.
