A Columbus man was arrested in connection with a Wednesday morning non-fatal shooting, the investigation of which led to two other city residents being charged for drug possession.
Logan Vaughn, 18, was charged with aggravated assault and two counts of malicious mischief in connection to the shooting.
Chaundra Dismuke, 44, and Dewayne Gardner, 62, were each charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute.
At 9:34 a.m., a Columbus police officer noticed two males arguing as they entered a vehicle driven by a female near the intersection of 20th Street North and 22nd Street North. One of the subjects wielded a firearm, leading the officer to perform a traffic stop.
At the same time, officers received a call from a witness under the age of 10, who reported shots fired nearby at the 1200 block of 20th St. N.
Officers and investigators were dispatched to both the traffic stop and the scene of the shooting.
Officers collected gun shells at the scene of the shooting, and the three subjects in the vehicle were detained at CPD for questioning but were later released.
Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Bryan Moore said CPD received a tip during the investigation that a fourth individual, Vaughn, shot into two vehicles and fled the scene.
Officers obtained a search warrant for Vaughn’s home, as well as a warrant for his arrest. In searching Vaughn’s home, officers discovered drugs in Dismuke and Gardners’ possession, including cocaine, marijuana and prescription pills.
Bond has not been set, and all three suspects are in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Moore said both Vaughn and Dismuke are out on bond with the Lowndes County Circuit Court.
Moore said this is an ongoing investigation and future arrests are likely to be made. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact CPD at (662) 244-3500 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
