A committee appointed by the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors will soon begin discussions on the expansion of a steel company and county water service. The two bids are part of projects funded with Community Development Block Grants funded through the Mississippi Development Authority. The committee is chaired by county administrator Ralph Billingsley
“One set of bids are part of an expansion planned for Mississippi Steel Processing, which is located on the campus of Severstal,” Billingsley said. “The engineer selection committee will start looking at the bids this week and we will know more about the bids at that point.”
The request for accepting the bids came from George Crawford of Golden Triangle Planning and Development District. Several attempts to reach Crawford for comment were unsuccessful.
Firms submitting bids for the project were CRS Engineering of Pleasantview, Tenn., Allen and Hoshall of Ridgeland and Calvert Spradling Engineering of West Point.
The second project for which bids were submitted is the East Lowndes Water extension.
“We tried to do this about a year ago,” Billingsely said. “We tried to get an emergency grant for this. We were not successful but were successful getting a regular grant. It will be used to help extend water to some areas in the eastern part of the county that currently do not have water.”
Billingsley said the committee will make its suggestion at the Oct. 15 board meeting.
