Jared Conerly has joined The Dispatch newsroom as prep sports reporter.
His first day was Monday.
In his role, Conerly will cover high school and youth sports across the Golden Triangle, as well as assist with coverage of Mississippi State University athletics.
A Richland native, Conerly comes to The Dispatch after serving almost three years as sports editor for the Greenwood Commonwealth, where he covered high school sports in Leflore and Carroll counties, as well as covering Mississippi Valley State athletics.
He is a 2021 graduate of Mississippi State, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communication.
“I’ve always heard of how good the teams are in the Golden Triangle and the surrounding areas but haven’t been able to see any of them play,” Conerly said. “The opportunity to work for an esteemed organization with great leadership that covers such fantastic sports was something that drew me to The Dispatch. I really just want to grow my craft as a sports writer and an all-around journalist and produce great content for the readers. As a sports fan, I know that satisfying feeling after reading some really good content, and I hope to bring that and more here.”
Managing Editor Zack Plair said he is proud to have Conerly join the team.
“He brings experience, a calm demeanor and he talks to people he just met like he’s known them for 20 years,” Plair said. “He brings a lot to our sports section.”
