he artists
Starkville native Andrew Rendon has been influenced by music from a very early age, listening to the local radio station and his family”s record player. His diverse appreciation of genres extends to rockabilly, bebop, rhythm and blues, classical and rock and roll. He began performing in the Golden Triangle last year. Inspired by artists including Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Neil Young and Del Rendon, he strives to diversify his set lists, which include original songs.
Kaley Ball will follow Rendon. Ball has been playing guitar and piano for nine years. She made her musical debut in Starkville in April, after moving from Laurel to major in music at Mississippi State University. Her band, Recycled Souls, has performed in venues including the Cotton District Café and Dave”s Dark Horse Tavern.
Poacher will close out Market Fest. The Starkville rock band comprised of Ben Hodge on bass, Scott Thomas on drums, and Ed Dechert on guitar describes their sound as “like a proverbial red-headed lovechild of Neil Young, Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr.” They expect their first record to arrive from the press any day.
Organizers invite everyone to celebrate the end of finals and take a break from holiday preparations.
Tickets will be $5 at the door. All proceeds benefit the Starkville Community Market, whose missions is to support local farmers and artisans, while giving the community access to the best local food and art around.
