A Columbus woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle Friday.
Eva Richards, 50, was struck about 8:58 p.m. while walking east on Seventh Avenue near 17th Street, Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said. She suffered blunt force trauma. Merchant said Richards appears to have been struck from behind.
She lived about a block from the scene, Merchant said.
Raymond Hackler with the Columbus Police Department told The Dispatch a suspect is in custody. Authorities declined to release the suspect’s name.
Charges are expected Monday.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the CPD at 662-244-3500.
