Officers with the Columbus Police Department are investigating a Friday night shooting on 18th Street North.
According to information released from the CPD, at 9:51 p.m. Friday, a CPD officer at the intersection of Eighth Avenue North and 18th Street North saw a group of men in the 700 block of 18th Street North, fighting in the street.
After calling for help from the CPD, the officer, who was on his way to investigate, heard the sound of a gun fired in the crowd, which quickly dispersed.
At 10:02 p.m., the CPD was notified a black male, 36, was treated, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, for a gunshot wound to the upper torso area.
Officers investigating determined the patient, whose name has not been released, was involved in the fight on 18th Street North.
The incident is under investigation; the victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.
