An accused murderer”s bond was slashed by $800,000 Thursday in Columbus Municipal Court.
Ranzino Ahmad Harris, 22, the man accused of fatally shooting Justin Murry, 21, and wounding Michael Brewer, 22, in a May 17 shooting on Schoolhouse Avenue, appeared with his attorney, Mark Cliett, before Judge Curtis Austin to request a bond reduction. Austin obliged, lowering Harris” bond from $1.1 million to $300,000 ($250,000 for the murder charge and $50,000 for one count of aggravated assault).
Making his case for the reduction, Cliett pointed to the $300,000 bond set for alleged Starkville shooter Dennis Thompson, who is facing a murder charge and three aggravated assault charges following a May 22 shooting outside a Starkville lounge.
Cliett also argued Harris” bond should be reduced based on the facts that he turned himself over to authorities following the shooting, has no criminal record and has been a lifelong resident of Columbus.
