A Columbus man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
David Logan Cook, 28, was driving southbound on Highway 45 near the Cal Kolola Road intersection around 5 p.m. when he left the roadway to the west, Merchant said. After traveling for some distance, the vehicle crossed over the median into the northbound lane where it struck a second vehicle.
“Then there was another wreck that happened trying to avoid that collision,” Merchant told The Dispatch.
Merchant said witnesses at the scene saw Cook’s vehicle flip several times before coming to rest in the roadside ditch. He died at the scene.
