Sheriff’s deputies found a burned body in a car Monday morning at Luxapalila Creek Park. Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said his department is investigating it as a homicide.
Hawkins told The Dispatch a passerby saw the burned car and reported it to authorities. When deputies arrived, they found the body inside.
No one reported the fire, Hawkins said.
“The witness who called it in went down there to walk his dog,” Hawkins said Monday afternoon. “He goes down there every morning. Yesterday the car wasn’t there. This morning it was.”
The body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Pearl for autopsy. Authorities have not identified the body, nor have they determined yet if the victim is male or female, Hawkins said.
