Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a Friday night shooting that left one person injured in Crawford.
Deputies responded Friday to Noxubee General Hospital after a gunshot victim was brought in for treatment, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release.
At the hospital, the victim’s girlfriend and alleged witness to the shooting, told deputies the shooting occurred on Main Street near Tina’s Kitchen in Crawford. She reported a Black male in a black Honda or Hyundai fired into a crowd of people from the window of his vehicle.
The witness said she and the victim drove to a residence at 60 Farmers Market Road before realizing the victim had been shot, at which point she drove to Noxubee General Hospital in Macon.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch no evidence of the shooting has been found on Main Street, and no calls were made to report a shooting in the area.
When deputies searched outside the residence on Farmers Market Road, they located one shell casing, blood and a bloody towel in the front yard. Preliminary findings show the incident may have occurred at the residence, though the witness maintains she and the victim never exited the vehicle, the release said.
The victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for further treatment, and no other injuries have been reported.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to call LCSO at (662) 328-6788 or contact the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
