Columbus Municipal School District trustees will determine the final candidates for the superintendent position on Monday.
In a Thursday meeting with representatives from Mississippi School Boards Association, the board reviewed the nine candidates who applied for the job.
Among the applicants, there are four superintendents, one director, one principal, two consultants and one adjunct professor, a press release from the district said. Five of the applicants have a doctorate degree. Four of the applicants are from Mississippi and the others are from Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and Washington.
Applicants were interviewed and were required to pass basic background and legal checks as well as meet the qualifications to be a superintendent per state law.
Board members were left with a report on the candidates as well as all application materials to review.
Board President Robert Smith said the board will reconvene at 2 p.m. Monday at Brandon Central Services to narrow down the applicants to a group of finalists, though he did not confirm how many finalists the district expects to have.
