A car wreck in Starkville has left one dead and sent three others in the hospital.
Ollice Nichols, 71, of Starkville, died Friday night after a vehicle he was in crashed at the intersection of Highway 12 and Bluefield Road, according to a Starkville Police Department press release issued Friday night.
No other vehicle was involved in the crash, the press release said.
Oktibbeha County Deputy Coroner Billy Miller told The Dispatch he pronounced Nichols dead at the scene and said an unfastened seat belt contributed to the fatality.
The driver of the vehicle was flown to Tupelo for treatment, and a male and female passenger were also taken to Oktibbeha County Hospital Regional Medical Center, the release said.
SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said Nichols was sitting in the back of the car, and that the crash is still being investigated. No charges have been filed at this time,
“We are continuing to investigate the crash,” Lovelady said. “Crash investigators will complete a reconstruction (of the incident).”
