A Columbus man has been charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend, Neshieka Dobbs, according to a Columbus Police Department press release.
Jamar Hughes, 40, was detained for questioning Thursday, shortly after Dobbs’ body was discovered at the site of the former Sanderson Plumbing plant near the corner of Peach Street and Seventh Avenue North.
Dobbs had been missing since Nov. 6. Police alerted the public Nov. 11 to be on the lookout for her and Hughes, who is believed to be the last person seen with Dobbs.
About 20 family members and friends gathered Thursday for an organized search, leading to the discovery of the body just after noon.
Shortly after the discovery, Hughes and a relative, Jonathan Hughes, were detained for questioning and identified by Police Chief Joseph Daughtry as persons of interest in the investigation.
Shawanda Jones, public information officer for the city, said the investigation remains active and could not speak to Jamar Hughes’ alleged motive or whether Jonathan Hughes will be charged.
Anyone with information pertaining to the investigation is asked to contact CPD at (662) 244-3500 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
