A Mississippi State University student is in custody after a pair of reported Wednesday drive-by shootings at 1040 Montgomery Street and Tabor Street.
Starkville Police Department arrested 19-year-old Nia Kamyra Smith Thursday on suspicion of drive-by shooting, felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to a news release.
Officers booked Smith into Oktibbeha County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
The shooting on North Montgomery Street resulted in suspects leading officers on a chase that ended near Haven 12 apartments north of Mississippi State University, when the suspects left their vehicle to flee on foot, according to a Wednesday evening SPD Facebook post. SPD is still searching looking for other suspects.
The activity near Haven 12 prompted MSU to issue a maroon alert that indicated shots were fired at the off-campus apartment complex and that three black males were seen fleeing toward the university. SPD later said no shots were fired at the apartments and that no one was hurt in the incident.
No other arrests have been made in the case. SPD requests anyone with information call 662-323-4131.
