The deadline for absentee voting in next week’s general election is Saturday at noon.
Lowndes County Circuit Clerk Haley Salazar said Monday is the deadline for ballots that were mailed out to be back in her office. Those ballots cannot be delivered to the circuit clerk’s office in person and must be mailed in per state law.
Salazar said she is pleased with the absentee turnout so far.
“We’ve had a steady stream of people in and out of the office for the past few weeks,” Salazar said. “It’s been very encouraging.”
Those who have voted absentee and those who will go to the polls Tuesday will cast their ballots for United States Senate, judicial offices and a statewide initiative that would establish hunting and fishing activities as a constitutional right. Voters in District 17, which comprises a majority of northern Lowndes County, will vote on a replacement for deceased Senator Terry Brown.
