A man was shot in the arm early Sunday morning on Highway 45 North, according to Police Chief Fred Shelton. A stray round hit the Waffle House, located across the highway.
The incident happened between 12:30 and 1 a.m. Sunday, he said, at the La Quinta Inn, located at 1200 Highway 45 N.
“A fight broke out and the victim said there was gunfire,” Shelton said. “He fell to the ground, and when he got up he realized he had been shot.”
A round went across the highway and hit the Waffle House, he said, but nobody there was injured.
The victim arrived at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Shelton said, who then alerted the Columbus Police Department.
The victim is not cooperating with police and said he doesn’t know who shot him, Shelton said.
Shelton said he didn’t know how many rounds were fired, but five casings were recovered.
CPD asks anyone with information on these cases to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151 or use the P3 Tips smartphone app. Tips are anonymous, and there is a cash reward if they result in an arrest.
