Two men robbed a Dollar General store Thursday night, according to Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins.
It was the third armed robbery of a Dollar General in Lowndes County since March 21.
Two masked men allegedly entered the store at 1641 Pleasant Hill Road near Steens at about 10 p.m., Hawkins said. One of them displayed a gun to the two clerks inside and demanded cash.
The two men are believed to have fled on foot, Hawkins said.
There were two clerks in the store at the time of the robbery, and they had locked themselves in the office when they called 911, Hawkins said.
“At the time they called they weren’t even sure if (the suspects) had left the store or not,” Hawkins said.
Hawkins said the details were very similar to the two previous robberies. The first was March 21 at Highway 182 and Dowdle Drive east of Columbus. The second was March 24 on Highway 12 in north Lowndes County. He would not confirm whether he believes the same suspects were involved in each.
