Lowndes County deputies are seeking a suspect in a Monday night armed robbery at the Dollar General on Highway 182 and Dowdle Drive near Columbus.
At about 7:30, a man in a hoodie, mask and gloves walked into the store carrying a bag, Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said. He produced an AR-style pistol and held up the clerk.
The robber stole about $1,600 in cash from the register and a safe behind the counter, Hawkins said, before fleeing on foot.
“He left on foot in an unknown direction,” Hawkins said. “We think he probably had somebody waiting around the corner in a car.”
Hawkins said investigators were working to get an image of the bandit from store security cameras.
