Authorities have identified the victims in two fatal shootings Wednesday, and Columbus police are searching for a person of interest in one of the cases.
Eddie Lee Gandy, 67, was found shot to death in his 15th Avenue North home Wednesday morning. Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton said there were signs of forced entry into his residence and it appeared someone had gone through his home.
Police are searching for Keylon Stubbs, 16, for questioning in the case, according to a Columbus Police Department press release issued Thursday night.
“Keylon lives in the area, and someone knows where he is,” Shelton said in the release. “Send him a message and tell him to come and talk to us. We will find him, and we ask anyone who knows where he is to contact us. Due to the severity of the crime, we can identify the person even though they are under 18 years old.”
Investigators arrested another 16-year-old, Korey Harris, and charged him with capital murder in the case on Thursday.
Suspects are charged with capital murder in cases in which a victim is killed during the commission of another crime, in this case robbery, Shelton said.
Mother, daughter identified in domestic shooting
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant also identified the victims in a second Wednesday shooting unrelated to Gandy’s death.
Erica Bush Brewer, 49, and her daughter Jayda Brewer, 8, died after a family member allegedly shot them at their home on 26th Street North. Police arrived at the residence at about 12:30 p.m. to find Jayda already deceased in the driveway and Erica inside the home injured. Erica was flown to a trauma center but died later Wednesday.
Erica Brewer’s son, Jaquenton Bush, 22, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the shooting. Shelton said it appears Bush shot the Brewers during an argument.
The Brewers’ bodies have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Pearl for autopsy, as has Gandy’s, Merchant said.
Shelton stressed the shootings are unrelated to one another.
Anyone with knowledge of either shooting is asked to call CPD at 662-244-3500 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151. Those with information can also leave a tip for investigators on the P3 Tips phone application.
