STARKVILLE — A 15-year-old has been charged with murder for the fatal shooting Easter evening at the intersection of Hilliard and Sherman streets.
Tyrese Macon of Starkville was arrested Tuesday for killing James Clifton Hester Files, 17, according to a Starkville Police Department press release. The incident occurred inside a vehicle at the intersection, which is near Henderson Ward Stewart Elementary School.
No involved parties lived in the immediate area, the press release said.
“This violent act has impacted a number of lives and is not a reflection of Starkville’s core values,” Starkville Police Department Chief Mark Ballard said in a press release Tuesday. “Senseless violence has left one teenager dead, and another teenager has forever changed the course of his life.”
The incident happened about a block west of a March 4 shooting outside an apartment complex near Henderson and Pilher streets that killed two victims. SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady previously told The Dispatch investigators “have no reason to believe” the two shootings are related.
Macon is being held in Oktibbeha County Jail with bond set at $750,000 bond.
