By the qualifying deadline, 35 people qualified to run for office in Clay County. Eleven seats will be contested in primaries, and three will be contested in the general election.
The qualifying window ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Party primaries are set for Aug. 8 and the general election on Nov. 7.
All supervisor seats are contested, but only three of five seats will be contested in the general election.
Challenger Mike Duke will face incumbent Lynn Horton in a Democratic primary for District 1 supervisor. No Republican is running for that seat.
For District 2 supervisor, Bob Lummus will face Daryl Thomas in a Democratic primary. The winner will face independent Johnnie Collins in the general election.
Incumbent RB Davis will face Heath Donahoo and Jake Pollard in a Democratic primary for District 3 supervisor. The winner will face Republican Larry Smelt in the primary election.
For District 4 supervisor, Catina Brown, Rashaan Ivy, Melvin Raines, Jerry Randle, Barry Smitherman and Charles Young will face each other in a Democratic primary. There is no Republican in that race.
For District 5 supervisor, incumbent Joe Chandler will face Jeremy Harpole in a Democratic primary. The winner will face independent Brad Williamson in the general election.
For sheriff, incumbent Eddie Scott will face Cedric Sykes and Ramirez Williams in a Democratic primary.
Challenger Sawana Walker-Bean will face incumbent Kim Brown Hood in a Democratic primary for circuit clerk. No Republican is running.
Robin Brown and Stephen Ross will face each other in a Democratic primary for county prosecutor.
Incumbent Thomas Hampton will face Clarissa Harris in a Democratic primary election for District 1 justice court judge.
Albert Lee will face James McKee in a Democratic primary for the District 2 constable seat.
Democrat LaFrance Hamilton Boyd is running unopposed in the chancery clerk race.
Incumbents who qualified and are running unopposed include: Alvin Carter, Democrat, coroner; Tommy Bryan, District 2 election commissioner; Sherman Ivy, Democrat, District 1 constable; Porsha Lee, Democrat, tax assessor/collector; Chris McBrayer, Democrat, District 2 justice court judge.
No one qualified for the District 4 election commissioner seat by 5 p.m. Wednesday, so the seat will be appointed by the county supervisors.
