Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System will host its fifth Edible Book Festival at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library (CLPL) on Thursday as part of the library’s celebration of National Library Week.
Edible books are made of food and are inspired by literary titles, characters, or authors. Participants will showcase their creations on the first floor of the library from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
The public is invited to vote for their favorite entry either in-person at the Columbus branch or on the library’s Facebook page from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. the day of the festival. The top three winners will be announced at 5 p.m. that day.
Since its inception in 1999, the International Edible Book Festival has been held annually on or around April 1 — the birthday of Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), the French author of a witty book on food entitled Physiologie du goût. Dozens of libraries and cultural organizations around the world have held their own festivals to celebrate his work.
Girl Scout cookies are back in stock
Local Girl Scout troops are back out in selling Girl Scout cookies.
While nationwide supply chain issues and workforce shortages caused disruption to business as usual for this year’s Girl Scout Cookie Program, supply has been replenished.
Girl Scouts Heart of the South has extended the typical cookie season until April 17.
Every level of Girl Scouts from a 5-year-old Daisy to a 17-year-old Ambassador has the chance to earn badges in Financial Literacy and Cookie Business each year during the once-a-year Girl Scout Cookie Season.
From Memphis to Starkville, Girl Scouts are doing amazing things made possible by each and every cookie sale. Troops can use their profits in a wide variety of ways. They can offset costs of items like vests, badges the girls earn and other Girl Scout related items. They can go to educational events where they can earn more badges and learn about new careers or ideas that affect change in their world.
