Starkville Area Arts Council recently announced two upcoming projects.
Cotton District Arts Festival 2021 is set for Oct. 2.
Presented by the Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) and the Cotton District Arts Festival (CDAF) Committee, the historic festival is being brought (safely) back to the Cotton District this fall with over 150 artisans, 20 local food vendors and food trucks, local musicians, fun arts activities for all ages, and more.
Earlier this week, the CDAF Committee revealed the official #CDAF2021 poster created by Morgan Hollis. It was chosen over a dozen student submissions to their annual contest in Mississippi State University graphic design classes taught by Suzanne Powney.
Although #CDAF2021 will continue rain or shine, inclement weather (such as severe lightning, flooding, high winds and tornados, etc.) may affect the committee’s ability to host a festival.
At the moment, masks will be required for vendors and encouraged for attendees. Social distancing guidelines will be followed. This is subject to change based upon recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and/or the Department of Health at the time of the festival. For information on the COVID-19 vaccine, contact a medical professional. For more up-to-date notices about the festival, follow CDAF and SAAC on social media.
Now commencing its third decade, the Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) sponsors the Cotton District Arts Festival, runs various art education initiatives, and awards almost $25,000 each year throughout Starkville and Oktibbeha County in its mission to build a strong, creative, connected community through the arts. SAAC appreciates the support of the City of Starkville and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, Oktibbeha County, National Endowment for the Arts, Mississippi Arts Commission, Visit Mississippi, Del Rendon Foundation, 4-County Electric Foundation, SOAR, ATMOS Energy, and various local businesses and individuals. Submit art for winter showcase
Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) announced that submissions are open for its annual Art in Public Places (AiPP) Exhibit series, the 2021 Winter Showcase. Media accepted include (and are not limited to) photography, painting, drawing and illustration, ceramic and three-dimensional works, fiber art, etc. No theme.
All submissions must be made via SAAC’s online portal. To access, visit www.starkvillearts.net and click on the “Submissions” button for all of our active applications. The submission deadline is Sept. 29.
Artists can submit up to three total works by submitting individual forms. Space is limited, so no piece should exceed 48 inches in any one direction nor weigh more than 75 pounds. Works in previous AiPP shows may not be submitted again. Full submission details are on the SAAC website.
The show will be installed on Nov. 1, in the lobby of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership. This show will be a hybrid show: works will be on display in the lobby of the Partnership, as well as online. SAAC plans to hold an opening welcome reception at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the Partnership Lobby. This exhibit will run from Nov. 2 to Jan. 10, 2022.
